iRed2 on iPhone and iPod touch

iRed2 has a web server built in, so you can connect to iRed2 from your Mobile Safari on your iPhone or iPod touch easily. There is no "jailbreaking" necessary, i.e. this works with every iPhone or iPod touch instantly.

On your Mobile Safari, just enter an adress - an URL - like this one: "http://192.39.145.12:4142", i.e. the IP adress of your Mac running iRed2, followed by the port number, which is configured in iRed2's preferences.

Firewall?

If you have set up your Mac to use a firewall, you'll have to "pinch a hole" into it to connect to iRed2 from the outside. Depending on your preferences in iRed2, this may be a port like 4142, which is the default setting.

On Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.x):

If your Mac is not configured otherwise, everything works out-of-the-box. In System Preferences, Security pane, Firewall tab, the default setting is "Allow all incoming connections". Then everything's fine. If not, ... stay tuned ;-)

On Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.1x):

For now, just two screenshots from Tiger's System Preferences:
