iRed2 after version 2.5 

The handling of USB modules has changed with version 2.5. The driver is no longer necessary, in fact it is essential to uninstall the driver before running iRed2 2.5 successfully. Under Big Sur or later, the driver never could be installed, so you don't need this on macOS 11 or 12.

To uninstall the driver (you'll need admin rights!)

• Quit iRed
• Open Terminal.app
• Copy/Paste the following line into a terminal window and press Return

• sudo rm -r /Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext

• Enter your password to allow the sudo (superuser) command
• Start iRed

You may also disable the driver temporarily to check, whether iRed is working with your module at all:

• Quit iRed
• Copy/Paste the following line into a terminal window and press Return

• sudo kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver

• Enter your password to allow the sudo (superuser) command
• Start iRed

After a restart of the Mac, the driver will be activated again (or you use kextload instead of kextunload, to re-activate the driver)

iRed2 before version 2.5

To use an IRTrans USB module, you need a "driver" to make the OS recognize the module.

If you are running macOS 10.9 or later (Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave), please install this driver with version 2.4.2. Here's the download link: "FTDIUSBSerialDriver_v2_4_2.dmg" (85 KB). 

This driver was tested on macOS 10.9 (Mavericks) up to 10.14 (Mojave).

After downloading and double-clicking the package, a window like this shows up:

Double click the right package and you will be guided through the installation. It is recommended to quit iRed and unplug the USB module before installation!

Please refrain from looking for newer drivers on the Internet, because only the provided driver is tested for use with iRed2.
