iRedTouch HD runs on every iPad with iOS 4 or later installed.
To transmit infrared (IR) codes to your stereo, you'll need an IR "transceiver" module which sits on your LAN or WLAN. This learns and transmits IR codes.
iRedTouch currently supports modules by IRTrans GmbH (www.irtrans.com) and by Global Caché (www.globalcache.com).
These are the supported modules so far:
Depending on the module type, you can place the module hidden behind your equipment (and use external LEDs), or use the blaster capabilities and place the module anywhere up to 5 m away from the target devices.
To transmit IR codes, these has to be learned before (or you can enter "Pronto" codes, as to be found on remotecentral.com e.g.).
Learning capabilities depends on the module type, too. For GC-100 you'll need an additional learner (GC-IRE or GC-IRL), iTach "2IR" has a very short range IR learner built in.
All IRTrans modules have an IR learner built in which works for greater distances (up to 3 m), optional there is a "universal learning receiver" with optimized learning capabilities but only within a short distance (up to 0.5 m).
